Routine
by Lyndall Jones - Worship Pastor
Do you ever wonder what the goal is? You do your normal routines, you spend your day going about your business, and often we do this without thinking "this is my goal for today". Many times, this type of thinking can happen with going to church and our spiritual routines. We do these things because they're good to do as spiritual disciplines, but do we ask, "what is my goal for today?" in doing these things?
Our motivation is critical in doing what we do to honor the Lord. Jeremiah had a calling from the Lord to warn the people of his day to turn back to God, all the while knowing that they weren't repenting nor even listening to him. In fact, he was threatened with physical violence and death for it! Talk about a predicament! I wonder at times what he actually hoped his goal would be for each day. You even see his conflict in chapter 20:7-13 as he voiced his frustration and anger. But what you also see is his unshakable desire to obey God's calling in His heart. It was like a fire inside him! And, in the end of this passage, he is voicing his praise to our God. Talk about gaining some perspective!
I wonder today what our goal is in serving the Lord? Do we go through the motions without being under any real convictions? Are you so frustrated today at your current season of life that you are struggling with God? Are you wanting to see a human result to validate where you are obeying the Lord? I want to encourage you today to have a Jeremiah mindset - obey God, trust Him in the hard times, rest in that your obedience is honing you to His will regardless of the human result, and praise Him with all your heart. You and I might just see our "goal" change to become obedient and content to exactly what God's will is, both for our church and for yourself. That would be a good thing. See you on Sunday!
Soli Deo Gloria,
