Being Thankful Always
by Jeff Kimes - Executive Pastor
This week, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, we will consider all the things that we are thankful for. There are some that will struggle this week because of things going on or that have gone on in their life which have brought struggles and sorrow. God’s word says we are to be thankful in all things.
Habakkuk 3:17-18
17 Though the fig tree should not blossom And there be no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive should fail And the fields produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold And there be no cattle in the stalls, 18 Yet I will exult in the LORD, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
I received a message the other day from a young man from the village in Africa where we stayed. They have been in the midst of a drought. When we were there they were very low on water, so much so that they were having to walk their livestock a couple of miles every other day just to get them water. He told me that many of their cattle and goats have died because of the lack of water. The rainy season usually starts around the end of October, but they still had not had any rain. Things were getting pretty bad but in his messages to me he would express that they were still trusting the Lord. On Thursday, I received a message from him and he said it had started to rain. He was praising God for His provision.
As the passage in Habakkuk illustrates, there are times in our lives when things seem to be falling apart and we don’t know what to do. But it is those times we are to rejoice and be thankful in the Lord, He is our hope and our salvation. We may not know when the rain will come, but we do know Jesus is with us in the good times and the tough times. So let’s remember to give thanks to the Lord because He is good and His love endures forever!
Happy Thanksgiving,
Jeff Kimes
