Foundational Faith

Luke 6:46 “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 “But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

The foundation of a building is the most important part of the building even though you cannot see it. If the foundation is not secure or built right, then the whole building is in danger of falling down.

In this illustration that Jesus uses in Luke 6, He drives this point home. If Jesus is truly your Lord and you do what He says then the foundation of your faith is built on the solid rock. You will able to withstand the storms and trials of life.

If you do not apply the word of God to your life or have that biblical foundation, when the storms and the influences of the world come, your faith will not be able to withstand the pressures that come from it.

For the foundation of our faith to be firmly planted on the Rock we must trust, do and apply what the word of God says. If we do that, Jesus will be with us when the storms come. Jesus says in this passage “when” the storm comes, He didn’t say “if” the storm comes. We know a storm is coming, the question is, how is your foundation? Do you have cracks in the foundation of your faith? If your foundation is not where you think it needs to be, start the process of building it deeper.

Here are three things that will help strengthen you foundation of faith.
  • Read God’s word.
  • Apply God’s word to your life.
  • Find a place to serve in the church.
