ONE WKND is Coming

by Chris Watkins - Student Pastor
James 5:12

As I continue to prepare my heart and mind for what God is going to do in our Student Ministry over the course of One Wknd, I can’t help but get excited. These weekends are like a shot of caffeine to the soul in my life. I remember the weekends that I got to spend time with my friends in worship, playing silly games, and being vulnerable with each other in small groups. I remember all the weekends that I was able to then serve as a leader and see new generations of students get to experience the Lord in a real way over the course of these special weekends. I have loved getting to see Chisholm Students experience God over the last few years at our various weekends and the silly videos that they make as a group.

I am eager to see how the Lord will move this year. We are going to have an incredible time in our worship services! God is going to do something awesome in our small groups. I am hopeful that our students will learn in the breakouts that they attend. But most importantly I pray that each student will walk away with the knowledge in their heart that God loves them, that their lives matter, and they can make a difference in their community by buying in to the theme this year Make IT Matter.

The verse at the beginning, James 5:12, is a verse that has stuck out to me over the last few weeks as I have been thinking of our students and what one thing we can do to start making sure we are prepared for whatever God has for us. I believe if we truly start making sure that our yes is yes and our no is no, then when we speak the truth of God to those around us, they will be able to hear and experience the Truth for themselves. However, if we do not speak with the truth and we live in a way that is contrary to what we speak then we fall into judgement and hypocrisy. Let’s rise above what the world says and does, and live according to what God has for us.

As we draw near to the Lord this year, let’s pray for one another that we will be honest in our words and our actions. Let’s pray that our character would point to Jesus who is our example in this life. Let’s pray that our students would buy in and live a life sold out for Jesus. That our church would Make IT Matter in everything we do.

I look forward to sharing more with the church on February 2 in the worship service as we finish our ONE WKND strong together. You do not want to miss out!
