We Will Remember
By Rusty Stowe - Senior Adult Pastor
The word “remember” is one of the most commonly used words in our everyday conversations – especially the older we get! We try to “remember” where we left things, where we are going or where we have been! But this is nothing new! Our memory bank sometimes gets so full that we forget the important matters in life. At this particular time of the year, April 19, many of us go back to 1995 and we remember the “Murrah Building Bombing.” We remember where we were at the time. We remember those 168 men, women and children who lost their lives. And for some of us we remember the horror of driving around helping people locate their loved ones in downtown OKC. As bad as that day was it causes us “to remember.”
As we quickly approached the Easter celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ let me encourage you “to remember.” Remember what Jesus did for each of us as He endured all the events leading up to His crucifixion. Remember that at any time, Jesus could have removed Himself from the pain and agony of the cross. Remember that he hung there and eventually died because He loved us that much.
Remember that even on the cross Jesus showed His love and compassion for the two criminals hanging to His right and left. Remember that one of these guys said to Jesus, “Remember me when you come into Your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42) Remember, Jesus said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)
Several years ago we introduced a song to you entitled, “We Will Remember”. The song said: We will remember the works of Your hands. We will remember that You are our Creator, Sustainer, Deliverer, Comfort and Joy. We will remember that through life’s darkest valleys, You are with us.” Then the song says, “I remember the day You saved me, the day I heard You call out my name. I remember You said You loved me and would never leave me and I’ve never been the same again.”
This Easter season take time to “REMEMBER” and celebrate our Risen Lord!
