News from Rob and Laura Flaherty
Dear Chisholm Heights Baptist Church,
We hope this letter finds you with love in your heart. I wanted to reach out and share some news: we're following the Lord and coming home from Kenya.
Due to unforeseen circumstances and considering our family's health, we have elected to come home, but we won't quit the ministry commission by any means.
The decision burdens us. We are anxious and sad but excited because we know God has made it clear for us to return. We are also nervous and thrilled we can return to our church family.
Our experiences in East Africa have been unforgettable, and we look forward to sharing our stories and insights with you.
The mission work isn’t done here, and we (the Flaherty family) hope to return periodically to work with the Maasai. We would welcome CHBC to partner with us in the ministry among the Maasai people and village.
Vapor Sports Ministry and Untold Ministry have been a blessing to us. These ministries are associated with Chick-fil-A, and we've had the opportunity to participate in Vapor and Untold. Vapor impacts thousands of kids through a community water supply, elementary school, and sports. Untold was a chance to provide a future where every single person living with HIV/AIDS receives life-saving care, giving them spiritual hope and a peaceful life without stigma. The Untold ministry offers integrated care that helps with physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic health. The goal is for every single person living with HIV to get life-saving care, spiritual hope, and a life without stigma. These two ministries are also ones that we hope to continue having a relationship with in the future.
We'll be arriving back in Mustang on October 29 around 9:45 pm.
Please pray as we make another transition. Pray for the boys and our family's health, as this has been difficult. Surrender, obedience, and faith are hard even when God clarifies change.
Thank you for being so supportive while we've been away. Our church has been an anchor, and I hope we can come back and serve well In due time. We sing praise daily, “On Christ the Solid Rock”; that song sums up where we are in life.
“My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus' name. When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. His oath, His covenant, and blood. Support me in the whelming flood; When every earthly prop gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand.”
He is the Rock and we trust His direction in this.
We want to share with you what God has done this year in bringing new brothers and sisters into his kingdom, changing hearts, and opening doors to help people have access to water through digging a pond, teaching sound biblical theology, and then being able to minister medically in East Africa.
Our church, Kileleshwa Covenant Community Church in Nairobi, is also excited to partner with us and has affirmed our call. I have had the opportunity to preach, teach, and participate in the church's mission work. Pastor David wants CHBC to know how grateful he was to have us. He is sending us back in high regard and looks forward to what God does between our churches.
We know Jesus called us here and is calling us home, so we anxiously look forward to a church we can come home to.
We love you, and thank you for everything!
Blessings,
Robert, Laura, Ben, and Sam
