Divine Interruptions
by Rusty Stowe - Senior Adult Pastor
Our lives are filled with those times when our plans are interrupted by things that seem to be out of our control. Plans that we have been making to live our best life and to enjoy it without drama, confusion, or chaos. But something happens and things don’t work out like we planned. The fact is that we must deal with times when our plans must be shifted and schedules are interrupted.
A “casual” interruption is when someone or something stops an event from happening. But a “divine” interruption is the work of grace, an invitation that lets God come down and intervene in a way that will settle things on our behalf. So, what happens when God’s interruptions are unpredictable? In Isaiah 55:8 we read: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways, My ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher that the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than yours.”
The moment we give in to trying to figure out God, we miss the BIGGER picture and that may be “WHY” He places these divine interruptions in our lives in the first place. We should all confess that to some degree we’re guilty of being “control freaks.” We have schedules of paying bills that come due, we stock our freezers with food just in case someone drops by unexpectedly and so forth. We get frustrated when something out of our control interrupts our plans. However, when God wants to do something we’ve never experienced before, He will move our hand and replace it with one that is mightier than ours.
Isaiah 43:19 states, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” A “divine interruption” is God’s way of showing us that He is getting ready to do something that is out of our hands. This can be an opportunity for us to embrace a divine assignment.
As we move into the year 2025 remember God’s “divine interruption” is an invitation to understand the revelation of God rather than our own self-appointed assignments. Embrace these interruptions as a blessing from God because He has greater things for us to accomplish. Maybe God is getting ready to reintroduce Himself in an unusual, yet appealing way. Be assured that whatever He delights to do in and through us may be greater that what we produced last year.
