We Are Halfway There

by Jeff Kimes - Executive Pastor
As I type this article, it is July 2 and that is the halfway point of the year, so we are closer to end of 2025 than the beginning of 2025. Mull on that a bit.

I was talking with my grandson a day or so ago about Falls Creek. He mentioned one thing he came back with that he is really focusing on: it is, as a Christian, whatever you do not only reflects on you but also on all Christians. So if you are a Christian and do something wrong, people don’t just see it as a person doing something wrong, but as a Christian doing something wrong. Therefore it also gives Christianity a black eye.

Matt. 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus said in this passage, in Matthew, that we as followers of Christ are the light of the world. I remember touring a cave and at one point they turned the lights out in the cave and there was total darkness. You couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. Then the tour guide turned on this small flashlight and everybody’s attention was turned to that light.

If we are letting the light of Christ shine through us in this dark world, people will see it and it will give glory to God. In the same way if we are doing something wrong people will see it and our witness will be tarnished.

So as we move through the last half of this year, let’s look for ways we can let our light shine and bring glory to God.

God bless,
Jeff Kimes
